Commentary: Ban Xia is used to descend rebellious LU and ST Qi, transform phlegm, and moderate the moistening nature of Mai Men Dong.[42]
Related Formulas:
NCCAOM: NCCAOM has two formulas for interior dryness. This dryness is from Yin Fluid Deficiency. Zēng Yè Tāng and Mài Mén Dōng Tāng. Zen Ye Tang is for Large Intestine Dryness + Yin Deficiency with constipation and Yin deficiency symptoms. Mai Men Dong Tang is for Lung and Stomach Yin deficiency causing cough with difficult expectoration, nausea, vomiting, dry throat. Both contain Mai Men Dong

Mai Men Dong: Diarrhea from middle jiao cold and deficiency • sedatives • cough from wind cold or damp phlegm
Ban Xia: Yin deficiency cough • Bleeding • Dehydration • Heat • Pregnancy • Incompatible with Wu Tou and Fu Zi • Antidepressant drugs • Blood pressure medication • Terfenadine (antihistamine) • Foods: lamb, goat
Ren Shen: Blood thinner medication • Diabetes medication • Blood pressure medication • Caffeine • Yin deficiency • Stagnant fire • Hypertension • Bleeding disorders • Pain in chest • Excess heat • food: onion, garlic, radishes, tea, turnips
