Indications: Constipation due to Blood deficiency → Desiccated Intestines [35] • Constipation from blood deficiency, damaged Yin, or depleted fluids, dry nails, dry mouth, unquenchable thirst, lusterless skin[25] • Constipation due to dry intestines: constipation, dry skin, dry nails, dry mouth, unquenchable thirst. Particularly for elderly, post-partum women, weak constitution.[42]

Commentary: For debilitated patients where key symptoms is dry stool that are not difficult to pass. This action is mild and does not work quickly. It is good for chronic constipation that needs to be purged to feel well voided [25] • Run Chang Wan – moisten intestines. Blood deficiency type constipation- not that different from normal bowel movement. (different from Qi stagnation constipation which is pebble type - excess type). Huo Ma Ren – moisten intestines; Tao Ren/Dang Gui – invigorate and tonify blood and moisten intestines; Sheng Di Huang – nourish Yin, cool blood, generate fluids; Zhi Ke – regulate Qi to help push. Stool is not hard, just difficult to get out; Run chang – to oil the intestine to help with peristalsis.
