Description
Name Variations: Mu Li San , 牡蛎散, Oyster Shell Powder,
Herb List: Mu Li(K) • Huang Qi(M) • Ma Huang Gen(A) • Fu Xiao Mai(A)
Commentary: Focused on treating patients with weak constitution and weak Wei Qi, mild Yin Xu and therefore not able to bind yin essence. Main symptoms is chronic sweating. Sweat us the heart fluid. So when we have chronic heart fluid weakness, it leads to yin deficiency with heart palpitations, pale red tongue, thin and weak pulse. This formula astringes Yin to stop sweating and consolidate the Wei Qi. Long term spontaneous sweating can cause Qi deficiency and Yin fluids and vice versa. Chief herb is Mu Li. Oyster shells (Mu Li) has amino acids and minerals like calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Magnesium is often lost through sweating. Magnesium relaxes smooth muscle and heart. Magnesium deficiency leads to palpitations and spasmodic muscles. Huang Qi especially strengthens the exterior layer. Ma Huang Gen stops sweating (opposite of Ma Huang). Fu Xiao Mai (gluten) is harvested Xiao Mai that is poor quality and are fairly empty in the husk. They float on the surface of water so this is mainly used for its husks. Mainly using the husk which has lots of vitamin B6, B1 and B2. Focused on Qi deficiency to stop sweating.
