Indications: Six Yu syndrome. Qi: chest oppressed; Blood: abdomen, chest ,hypochondria stabbing pain, distention pain; Fire: bitter taste, acid reflux; Damp Phlegm: chest fullness with nausea, vomiting; Food: poor appetite, retching with foul odor. Brain/Heart/Kidney axis - depression.[Song]

Commentary: Formula is focused on all 6 types of stagnations. King herb is Xiang Fu to move Qi and regulate Qi, soothe Liver. Liver distributes Qi throughout the body. Cang Zhu eliminates damp/phlegm. Shen Qu is the binder. This formula is rarely used in Austin because Shen Qu has gluten in it. Modern: has been used to treat depression.

Caution

ALERT: Contraindications of each herb - use with caution under these conditions:
Xiang Fu: Qi deficiency without stagnation • Yin deficiency • Blood heat
Chuan Xiong: Pregnancy • Blood thinners • Fire from yin deficiency • Dry tongue • Dry mouth • Fever • Profuse menstrual bleeding • Spleen deficiency • caution: LV yang xu since this herb tends to move Qi upward.
Zhi Zi: Spleen and Stomach deficiency cold • Loose stool • Poor appetite • Diarrhea
Cang Zhu: Excessive sweat from Wei Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency heat, loose watery stool
