Symptoms
Tongue: ACUTE: normal, thin white coat. CHRONIC: pale, thin white coat Pulse: ACUTE: tight, choppy. CHRONIC: thin, weak
Indications: Pins and needle, burning, tingling, numbness or pain in the hand and in the fingers affected by the median nerve. The 5th finger is unaffected. Pain is mostly on the palmar side of the hand and is worse at night, with movement and on flexion. Heat makes it worse. Severe symptoms can present with atrophy of the thumb making it difficult to grip objects.
BioMed: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: PHYSICAL TESTS: Wrist Flexion Test, Forearm Block Test/ Compression Test, Tinel Test, Phalen Test, Little Finger Test. LABS: Electromyography / Nerve Conduction Study. PREVENTION: avoid overuse, splints/braces, correct posture, lose weight (if applicable), stop smoking, reduce caffeine.
